I liked it; it was good
I bought this poetry book directly from the author at a book event in Port Coquitlam (she even signed it for me!). I’m getting better at understanding and appreciating poetry, so I’m excited to read this book.

This collection of poetry is focused on the internal compass that points us in the directions we take in life, our “North Star Heart” that leads us to good things.
These poems were sweet and thought-provoking. They made me consider my own life and whether I’m happy with it (which I am!) but also made me think about the things I have and feel grateful for having them. I’m following my own North Star heart, spending time with friends and family who make me feel welcome and full.
The book is written in three parts, each beginning with a photograph that suits the poems. The poems themselves sit beautifully on the pages amid line art also drawn by the poet, and while some of the poems are short enough to fill less than half a page, others span to a second page. The whole book was beautifully put together.
I brought this book along for the Mothers’ Day weekend; my mom and I drove up to the Okanagan to visit my grandparents. I enjoyed being able to crack this book open in the quiet moments as we soaked up each others’ presence, reading together.
I found a single punctuation error, but overall the book was expertly edited and professionally designed. The lightness of the font gave the whole book an elegant feel.
This is a book I recommend to poetry lovers keen on self discovery and/or the beauty of nature. Silva does an excellent job of making the world around her come to life in her writing.
