Hello! My name is Carolin Petersen, the owner and operator of Tigerpetal Press. I grew up locally in British Columbia, and I’ve always had a voracious appetite for fantasy and science fiction, but lately I’ve been branching out into other genres.
I fell in love with stories at a young age. Reading was my happy place, and I could often be found writing or daydreaming about magic and adventure.
I am currently rewriting Broken Compass, a Middle-Grade Medieval Fantasy book I self-published when I was 16 years old.
I am also working on a YA Supernatural Mystery trilogy entitled The Angel’s Curse.

Carolin currently lives in Chilliwack, BC, after attending Okanagan College in Kelowna for their Writing and Publishing Program. Since graduating, she has started her own business, joined a few local and online writing groups, and is steadily making a name for herself.
Her vision for Tigerpetal Press is to support local authors and poets in British Columbia, while also offering freelance services to indie authors around the world. With her blog, she hopes to spread help spread her experiences with new authors, provide her opinions for discussion, and share reviews for both widespread trades books and lesser-known self-published authors.
Her favourite aspect of the publishing process is book design. She’d never given it much thought before but fell in love with typography and the intricacies of typesetting during her post-secondary education.
As a bookbinder, Carolin loves the physical aspect of creating a book from scratch—designing the pages, putting together a cover from repurposed fabric and leather, and hand-stitching the book together. It is a lost art that she fell in love with during her schooling, and continues to expand upon in terms of skill and experience.
Tigerpetal Press is classified as a Small Press, but what does that mean?
Among authors, small presses are most open to interpretation. Tigerpetal Press is a publisher that takes on less financial risk than bigger publishers. We only pay a small honorarium instead of a large advance sum to the author, and our print runs are limited to less than 200 copies. We rely heavily on our authors and poets to help with the promotion of their chapbooks. That said, we strive to support our authors and poets with a full ride of editing, design, and bookbinding services. In terms of royalties, the author will receive that small honorarium as mentioned and 10% of the final print run for personal use—to keep, sell, or give away.
Attended Okanagan College from September 2019 to December 2021.
The W&P Diploma is a two-year program focused on creative writing, professional editing, document preparation & design, bookbinding, and more.
It teaches how to go from the first draft of a novel all the way through to publication, and guarantees its students are adept in the latest software in the business.
