Sally Quon’s poetry collection, ‘This Long Road’ was the chosen submission from Tigerpetal Press’s 2023 November submission period. The theme was recovery; healing; and/or personal growth, and Sally’s collection fit perfectly with these and with our vision.

This Long Road is a lyrical masterpiece, exquisitely edited and designed. Through the sacredness of everyday moments and the ache for freedom, Quon offers a psalm of journey, singing all the notes—the highs and lows—as she claims the right to existence. Let her peace and permission anoint you to slow down, pay attention and savour the multi-dimensional hues of life, her crickets and meadowlark, cinnamon and apples, ocean mist and stardust, a song ascending through all the extraordinary facets of the ordinary.
—Cynthia Sharp, author of Ordinary Light and Rainforest in Russet

This collection shines a new spotlight on the particular magic of Sally Quon’s poetry: creating power and presence in vulnerability and intimacy. She is, as always, fearless and honest, opening a door for readers to share, imagine, and see their own parallels in her words. In This Long Road, readers will find grief, joy, uncertainty, shame, renewal but most of all, resilience and beauty.
—Christina Myers, author of Halfway Home and The List of Last Chances

We chose a five-hole saddle stitch as a simple method of binding the book while still providing the strength to secure all the pages. This book has a total of 52 pages (thirteen sheets), which is the thickest single-signature book Tigerpetal Press will do.

In the pictures below, you can see my progress, printing on quality baronial ivory Neenah linen paper and white cardstock. The cover image is one photographed by Sally Quon, displaying the resilience of the plant life growing on stone, which would otherwise be considered an inhospitable location for them. I used white thread for binding, so as not to take away from the image.
