This mini sketchbook is made using two different materials. For the back cover, I wanted something solid, so I wrapped the book board in a simple grey linen. For the front cover, I decided to use a sheet of striped decorative paper, which wraps around the back of the book and is attached using the Japanese stab binding method.

Since this is such a small book to begin with, I wanted the binding to be as unadorned as possible while still securely holding the book together. I chose the four-hole pattern, which blends nicely with the striped cover. It’s held in place at a quarter inch, which will allow the artist to fold the pages back almost completely, giving them 8 inches of width to work with.

This little sketchpad isn’t too bulky or thick; it’s perfect for taking along on a trip.
