When I got several swatches of real fur along with the rest of my recycled fabrics and leathers, I honestly didn’t know what I was going to do with it. It’s too thick to wrap around a regular-sized piece of book board, so if anything, it could be used for a massive book (9 x 12 inches or bigger) or for softcovers. Even more, I didn’t know how well trimming the edges or stitching would go. With this book as an example, I think it went pretty well.
I decided to start simple, so I went with a basic long stitch pattern. For stitching, I was torn between some natural colours to match the vibe, and eventually chose white over the dark brown. I trimmed the cover to exactly match the pages, but now that I know it’ll work, I might do a wrapped real fur cover in the future.
All in all, this book was a lot of thinking but took almost no time to put together once I had all the pieces. It’s a book with a texture that is both stimulating and calming. It’s something I want to keep petting.
