There’s a funny story to go along with this one. Back when I first started making notebooks with the faux leather used here, I accidentally cut this sheet to short. It was 7.5 inches tall rather than 8 or 8.5 inches, so I couldn’t use it. I rolled up the leather and set it aside, wondering if I would make a book in the future at that height. Later on, I was trying out a new design for the interior pages, and due to a flaw around the edge, I had to trim it smaller than I’d intended, making the trim size 7.5 inches tall. Funny how both those instances worked out!

I chose a long stitch for this softcover book, and I made a really nice pattern with this one (rather than the standard long stitch where all the signatures have the same pattern). No other fabrics match with the yellow/orange embroidery floss I chose like this nice dark brown does; the faux leather just makes it pop!

My strip of faux leather was quite long, and when I trimmed it down, I liked the idea of having a flap for the outside, as well has having the inside flap a little longer so it can wrap around the pages to further protect them. Afterwards, I found a glossy brown button I thought fit nicely with the book’s design and added it to secure the flap to keep the seven signatures inside safe.
