It’s been a while since I’ve made a book with exposed spine stitching. It’s not my usual style.

I created this book with love, care, and attention. The cover fabric carries the soft texture of the viscose (cactus silk), and the inside is marbled paper of a similar busy pattern. I used a dark brown waxed thread to bind the books, as the colour contrasts nicely against the cream pages and doesn’t clash with either the inner or outer patterns.

The signatures are bound using the French link stitching style, which I’ve done a lot in practice for the casebound books, but not so much as it’s own stitch. For extra support, I included two rows of Coptic stitching, and while there are five signatures, only three include the criss-cross pattern of the French link, as the two ends are used to secure the pages to he front and back covers. No glue was used for securing the pages, and therefore it gives this notebook the ability to lay completely flat when opened. The lack of a solid spine also allows it much more flexibility.
