I chose the chain stitch method for this sketchbook because once again, binding with no glue allows the pages to lay flat. Furthermore, I’ve done quite a few stab bound artbooks already, and wanted to do something a little different.
The spine of this book is quite wide, which allows the artist to lay the pages completely flat as they draw. I knew right away that I wanted to use black leather for the spine, and it just so happened that I decided on white leather for the front and back covers for some contrast. Of course, since I chose to do that, I needed to use white waxed thread for the stitching. This sketchbook kind of reminds me of a panda or a zebra.
Unfortunately (I only noticed after the book was nearly done) there was a slight flaw in the white leather on the front of the book which wouldn’t come off. To remedy this, I added an uneven patch of black leather as a sort of accent piece (which will also help the artist differentiate the front and back of the book). Due to the time it takes to bind this book, it’s a bit more on the expensive side, which is why I gave it so many pages (to balance out the cost a bit so it’s well worth it).
