Recently, I’ve been reading the classic mystery books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle about his legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. I love this character, so I decided to make a themed notebook to reflect that love.
Case binding is one of the cleanest styles of binding in my opinion, and I knew I wanted the entire outside to be black (to match the door of apartment 221B). I therefore bound this book in black plush velvet, which gives it a glossy sheen and a good texture.
For the inside, I used more of the same paper as the text block for the end sheets; I really like that it matches. Also, casebound books sit flatter if the signatures aren’t so dense, so instead of 10 sheets, I gave each of them 5 sheets. I knew I wanted a thicker book to match the dimensions, so I went with the same length of book as the guided journals we offer.
