I began this bookbinding project before leaving on vacation, and finished it after I got back, meaning it was in-progress for the longest time. In truth, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted it to look like, and in a way, that was helpful for me. It gave me a chance to step back and contemplate how I want my books to look going forward. I want to find a focus.
In the end, I decided to make this a casebound book, and chose a soft baby blue cardstock for the end pages. I like the difference in texture on the braided stripe-pattern fabric, and the stripes sort of reminded me of the patterns you’d find on a dog collar, so I thought it perfectly matched the interior imprint (a sketch of a German Shepherd sitting on the lines of the page).
T I stitched all five signatures using the Franch Link method before gluing the spine and attaching the mesh book cloth, headbands, and end sheets. Glue was also used to attach the text into the cover.
