The buttonhole stitch is unique among my chosen binding methods, in that one first must bind the top of the book, then the bottom, rather than securing each signature entirely before moving onto the next. The binder must also ensure that each connecting thread along the spine is evenly spaced and secure so the threads don’t slip. This adds a bit of complexity, but I think it’s quite worth it for the beauty of the end result.
To bind this book, I once again went with a buttonhole stitch, though given the plush velvet cover, I decided not to do any cutouts. The overall colour theme is green, as you’ll see not only from the velvet, but the waxed thread and interior paper as well. I’ve used nothing to separate each of the signatures, leaving it an open design.
There are 140 pages in this book, trimmed to 5 by 8 inches. The dotted design makes it the perfect notebook for not only writing, but sketching, designing, and graphing as well.
