I started working with Libana on Fiverr. She has self-published a few books before coming to me, but after this first book, our professional relatonship has taken off. I’m always excited to get more work from her and expand further into this new genre for me: Romance.
This was the first book I worked on for Libana. She found me on Fiverr, and ordered line editing and copyediting for this book. It was also my first time working on a purely Romance-genre book, but it was a fun project.
I began, as I always do, by using Find & Replace to go through my list of Canadian spelling and other commonly misspelled words. These were each added to their own table in the style sheet (one for regional spelling; one for proper nouns; one for character names). I checked punctuation, as Libana often used single and double primes instead of single and double quotation marks.
Once that was done, I went through the manuscript using the Read Aloud function pausing whenever I came across a misspelled word that I didn’t catch in my initial scan, and rewording a few sentences to correct the grammar or flow.
Coupled with the copyediting service, I provided line editing, which meant reading through the manuscript twice - each time with its own focus. I considered the overall tone of the book and the tone of each scene, the language used and how it worked for the intended audience, and Libana’s word choice in each scene. Most of these issues I either rewrote the sentence or added a comment to explain the issue.
