This was Libana’s final order on Fiverr before she emailed me directly about editing the rest of her books. Moving away from Fiverr was beneficial to both of us, as while it’s good for finding new clients, the cut they take as a finder’s fee (from both seller and buyer) is quite large.
This book is unlike either of Libana’s previous books that I’ve worked on. It’s a psychological thriller!
I admit, for this book I went a bit above expectations, as there were a few story-related errors that I couldn’t just leave alone. These errors fell under developmental editing, which is why all our future projects start with an editorial assessment. It’s better to hammer out the story before getting to the finer details.
That said, I started this project as usual: Find & Replace for the common errors. I really like that I can go through the entire manuscript as I go down my list of regional words (some authors send each chapter in a separate manuscript, meaning it takes much longer). I double-checked the more obvious grammar mistakes, then moved on to reading.
On my line editing read-through, I made comments and suggestions for improving the tone, syntax, and flow. I also pointed out where the story suffered from consistency issues, in which one scene contradicted another; Libana later expressed her delight at my attention to detail.
After that, copyediting progressed without issue.
